The best firefighter in Dalmatia has four legs

Wildfires in Dalmatia region of Croatia are now five times more frequent. Goat and sheep herds remove the dry biomass that fuels them, unless the wolves drive them off the pasture. We are protecting the region’s most effective fire brigade.

NATURE'S FIRE BRIGADE

Sheep are biological wildfire prevention

You cannot clear the Dalmatian hinterland with a tractor. The only tool capable of clearing the flammable scrub is a grazing flock. When they graze, they prevent disaster. When they are forced to hide in the barn, the landscape becomes a tinderbox.

Fire prevention

A single sheep consumes massive amounts of dry biomass daily, and a herd of 150 becomes a mobile firebreak protecting the entire village.

Biodiversity

Without grazing, invasive scrub chokes out the native medicinal herbs that define Dalmatian ecology and have sustained these families for centuries.

Disruption

Wolves accidentally dismantle our climate defense by chasing herds out of the pasture. We provide guardian dogs to act as a 'living fence,' keeping these biological firefighters safe in the field.

Don't let the landscape burn.

We are fighting for a landscape where wolves, sheep, and humans can coexist without burning down.

Your donation buys the 'living fence' that keeps the four-legged firefighters out in the field where they belong.
